Editor's Pick
With Twitter limiting us to 140 characters, many tweeters use URL shorteners when posting links to other sites. In Brazil, Carrefour decided to launch one 'with a heart'. Its URL shortener, Virou.gr, donates 1g of food to be distributed by the Brazilian Red Cross, for each character you reduce your link by. (Virou translates as 'turned into'.) Almost a month after its release, 60,000 links have already been shortened and the URL has attracted buzz on Twitter and blogs.
