Bernie Sanders Unites Faces of Many Colors in Latest Campaign
'Our Job Is Not to Divide,' Ad Says
Editor's Pick
Previously, just before the Iowa caucus, Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders' camp released an idyllic ad that showed heartwarming scenes of American life and Mr. Sanders' supporters rallying around the cause. Perhaps in an effort to challenge the perception that Mr. Sanders is supported predominantly by the white community, in various scenes, the spot seemed to make subtle nods to a more diverse fan base.
This time around, the "Vote Together" campaign speaks more overtly to a multicultural audience, melding together the faces of blacks and whites with Asians and Latinos, women with men and more, via a striking, design-driven approach. The faces of people of varying ethnic backgrounds appear on screen and then are "torn" in half, only to come together alongside the face of another. "Our job is not to divide. Our job is to bring people together," Mr. Sanders says in a V.O.
The spot was directed by Jonathon Olinger out of storytelling/strategy agency Human. It also includes a print/social component featuring the spot's faces.
