Why Is Uber Pranking These Londoners (and Making Them Seriously Irate)?
Stunt Highlights Regulatory Threats to Private Hire Business
Editor's Pick
Uber gets some customers majorly pissed off in this pranking-style video -- but it's for a serious reason. The company is highlighting Transport for London's consultation on private hire regulations in the capital. Proposals include forcing customers to wait five minutes between booking an Uber and being able to start their journey, and that's the basis of the prank -- the drivers make the customers wait, in a variety of ridiculous ways, after getting in the cab. These include being told "we're being held at a red signal," suggesting a game of noughts and crosses, behaving like they're in slo-mo, playing "on hold" music, or even refusing to let someone get in the cab for five minutes. Creature London created the stunt and film, which ends by inviting people to sign a petition against the proposals before the consultation ends on Dec. 23.
