It's vacation time, so brands are thinking up ways to tie in their products with that out-of-office feeling. We've already seen a TV spot from Heathrow Airport that captures it perfectly. Now here comes a rather different campaign from Burger King in France.
Agency Buzzman is using the seasonal getaway as an excuse to promote Burger King's Whoppers with a touch of the insouciant cheekiness the agency's campaigns for BK have become known for (it once ran a stunt getting customers to mock people in other French cities that didn't have the chain).
It's created the brand's own out-of-office email generator, which will compose an autoreply guaranteed to annoy recipients. Simply put in your destination and holiday dates and it will craft it into the most jealousy-provoking message. However, to soften the blow, the recipient also gets a voucher for a free Whopper or Oreo Shake.
The campaign is being promoted by a social film, seen here, which has fun with the idea, showing an office worker getting blasted with sand and seawater out of his computer screen.
