Could this be the most honest political campaign ever? Entrepreneur Ivan Massow yesterday announced his candidacy for the London Mayoral election next year with this animated ad, in which he puts it all out there: he's gay, an ex-alcoholic, dyslexic, and a (rich) businessman. He goes on to explain that he's not your typical politician, but someone who "takes the Tube and hates sitting in traffic" and understands the issues normal Londoners face, before urging people to tell him their views on social media or his website.

The colorful, pop-art style animation, by agency London Advertising, also ensures the ad is distinctive from other U.K. party political campaigns, which tend to be far less creative. However, it's perhaps unsurprising from Massow, who has always been an outspoken maverick with a talent for self-publicity.

A former chairman of the Institute of Contemporary Arts, he set up Britain's first financial advisory firm aimed at gay clients in his twenties. In the 1990s he joined the Conservative Party, becoming close to Margaret Thatcher before later defecting very publicly to the Labour Party. However, he rejoined the Conservatives after his spell in rehab (reportedly after an intervention from his friend Joan Collins) and will run as their candidate for mayor next year when current Mayor Boris Johnson steps down.
