Microsoft's Xbox hasn't always done a great job making women feel like part of the community. In March, it apologized for hiring scantily-clad women to dance and mingle at a party attended by the video game industry in San Francisco; as the Wall Street Journal pointed out, the party was "just hours after Microsoft held a networking luncheon for women in the industry." In an industry trying to disassociate itself from the sexist elements in its midst (see "Gamergate"), it was a serious screw-up.
In Japan, Xbox just made a stab at inclusiveness with an afternoon party just for women. The brand showed off snapshots on Twitter; everything was oh-so kawaii. There were treats bearing the green Xbox "X" logo, cookies shaped like alpacas and a fluffy white stuffed animal on the table. One attendee shared photos of something that looked like a white wedding cake, topped with a gaming controller. We're guessing the women snipped tea, nibbled cookies and maybe played some "Call of Duty."
