Xfinity foils young love in an '80s-inspired romp

Goodby Silverstein & Partners puts a modern spin on an old tale

Like the smarmy protagonist of an ‘80s movie, a teenage boy sneaks his way across a suburban lawn. Wait for lights out? Check. Treats for the guard dog? Check. Sturdy trellis for easy access to the second floor? Check.

His goal, of course, is the waiting arms of his girlfriend, who’s left her bedroom window open.

Though the scenario occurs at the home where John Hughes' classic Ferris Bueller film was shot, it isn’t the ‘80s anymore, and homeowners don’t take kindly to strange kids from the neighborhood invading their personal space. In a world of Nests and GoPros and nanny cams, how’s a guy supposed to get some late-night action?

This time it’s his own phone that gives him away, when it connects to the home’s Xfinity network and pings his girlfriend’s dad, who stops the tryst before it can begin.

The 60-second TV spot by Goodby Silverstein & Partners is directed by Nick Ball via MJZ. It follows more experiential fare from the agency for Xfinity, like a reality TV-themed bar in Miami Beach and a live paranormal investigation of a mansion.
