The Guggenheim just announced the finalists for YouTube Play, a partnership with the video site that invited filmmakers to submit their works for a "Biennial of Creative Video" to appear this fall at the Guggenheim in New York. The 20 winners will be unveiled there on October 21, with simultaneous shows in Berlin, Bilbao and Venice. The general public also will be able to see the winners from October 22 through 24 in New York and on the YouTube Play channel. More than 23,000 videos were submitted, and out of those 125 made the shortlist, all viewable on Play. The 20 winners will be chosen by the museum's jury of experts, which includes artist Takashi Murakami, designer Stefan Sagmeister, director Darren Aronofsky and performance artist Laurie Anderson.
