Curious Film Opens U.S. Office, New VFX hires at MPC and More

New Zealand's Curious Film is launching a U.S. office with the appointment of Chris Breneman as Head of Sales USA, based in Chicago. Breneman, who has previously worked at several US.. production companies, will represent Curious's stable of directors including Darryl Ward, Miki Magasiva. Regan Hall, Robin Walters and others, and a team of Australasian producers. Curious launched in New Zealand more than a decade ago, opening its Sydney office in 2007 with Pennsylvanian Peter Grasse at its helm as General Manager/EP. Grasse also oversees Curious footprints across Asia.
MPC London has hired VFX Supervisors Diarmid Harrison-Murray and Jon Park, both of whom also have directing experience. Harrison-Murray joins MPC from Framestore, where he was Head of 3D Commercials. His portfolio of work includes the James Bond "Skyfall" title sequence, Coca-Cola "Siege," and Pepsi "Crowd Surfing" and directing work includes a CG commercial for Three Mobile, "The Big Fish." Park is also one half of directing duo White Rabbit, with his creative partner Grant White. The pair direct animation, CG and live action, and have worked on film projects for clients including Daft Punk, The Horrors and Nokia.
Caviar has signed directing collective Oh Yeah Wow for commercial and music video representation in the U.S. and Europe.The Australia-based collective has created music videos for artists such as The Paper Kites, Bombay Bicycle Club, Slashand Aloe Blacc. Led by Darcy Prendergast and Seamus Spilsbury, it includes directors, animators, pyro technicians, designers, sculptors and artists. Their work has included a stop-motion video for Gotye's "Easy Way Out" and commercial works for brands including Woolworths and Porter Davis.
Producer and editor Doug Cox has launched Misfit, an editorial creative boutique based in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York. The shop is being led by founder and editor Cox and executive producer Kelly Koppen. Cox has been a creative, an editor and a producer, cutting cut content for Camp + King, Goodby Silverstein, Venables Bell & Partners, Dojo, Grey, AKQA and DDB. Recently he worked on the Levi's "Station to Station" public art project, which invited artists to take part in a cross-country train trip. Koppen started her career in client services at Jigsaw, later taking on editor and producer roles while also serving as operations manager. She was more recently a producer at Cut + Run.
BRW FILMLAND Los Angeles has signed director Marcus Ubungen for his first-ever U.S. commercial representation. Ubungen is a cinematographer and photographer who has worked on campaigns for brands as Nike, Porsche, YouTube, Volcom, Reebok, Chevrolet and Google, collaborating with agencies such as Goodby Silverstein & Partners, AKQA, Evolution Bureau, Venables Bell & Partners and Cramer-Kresselt.
Creative collective /Wildchild/+bonch has taken on several news hires from Red Car N.Y. Editors Deirdre Bell, Charlie Cusumano, Keith Olwell and Michael Sullivan, Creative Director David Winkfield, Managing Director Scott Spanjich and Senior Producer Val McAndrews all join the firm while Red Car President and Founder Larry Bridges will also join /Wildchild/+bonch as a member of its advisory board.
Former Superfad managing director Kevin Batten has launched Pop-Arts Management, a management and production-consulting firm. Pop-Arts' initial roster includes Logan, Logan & Sons, Gentlemen Scholar and Great Guns. Batten began his career as a founding member of Digital Kitchen then later held the positions of executive producer at Brand New School and managing director at Superfad, then Logan and Logan & Sons. He has also worked as an ad agency producer at Deutsch, Wieden+Kennedy, DDB and Wong Doody.
Click 3X has added The Kloons and Jetpacks Go! to its live action division. The Kloons -- Mitch Lewis, Greg Washburn, and Nik Kazoura -- launch and create original content including sketch comedy, music videos and reality-based game shows for their YouTube channel, which has 110,000 subscribers. Lewis also manages the YouTube channel for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Jetpacks Go! is the directing team of Alden Ford, Justin Tyler and Bobby Webster. They have produced commercials and content for brands like Oral-B, Boost Mobile, Nerdist, Comedy Central, Trident, Silk Soymilk, Sprint and the UFC.
Sam Rowland has joined the content and commercial directing roster at Indy8. Rowland has directed films for Nike, Oxfam, Mercedes, Selfridges, Dazed & Confused and The Commonwealth Games. His film "Tired of Playing Basketball" picked up Best Film at the "This London" Short Film Competition and "Best Documentary" at the Limelight 2012 Awards.
Cosmo Street Editorial has named editor Aaron Langley a partner. Langley began his post-production career as a runner at edit shop Pig and moved to Cosmo Street as an assistant in 2001. He was promoted to editor in 2007. He has cut TV campaigns for Truth, Land Rover, Foot Action, Converse, Geico, ESPN and Google.
Cut+Run has promoted senior producer Amburr Farls to head Of production for the Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin offices. Farls joined Cut+Run in 2013, and has produced projects for BK (Subservient Chicken Returns), Pepsi (World Cup), Turbo Tax (Super Bowl), and Miller Lite. She was previously senior producer at Arcade Edit and at Beast and worked as a producer at both Filmcore and Trailer Park.
