In its Super Bowl LVI commercial, titled “Mind Reader,” Amazon imagines what would happen if its Alexa virtual assistant could actually read minds. Celebrity couple Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost act out various awkward scenarios—e.g., Alexa automatically orders “mint mouthwash, extra strength” when Jost recoils at Johansson’s morning breath—in the comical 60-second spot.
“It’s probably better Alexa can’t read your mind,” Jost concludes in the end. “Bad idea,” Johansson agrees.
Amazon’s 2021 Big Game ad also took a celebrity-driven approach to promoting Alexa. In “Alexa’s Body,” Michael B. Jordan literally embodied the virtual assistant.
