After a five-year hiatus, Discover returned to the Super Bowl with a pair of 15-second ads promoting the benefits of its credit cards.
Discover’s first ad used a series of TV and film clips to highlight its lack of annual fees, showing characters from “Friends,” “Austin Powers” and “School of Rock,” among others, all giving a resounding “No!” to the question: “Does Discover charge annual fees?”
Its second ad followed a nearly identical formula, instead using “Yes” clips to show how widely Discover cards are accepted.
Both commercials ran in the game’s fourth quarter and were handled by The Martin Agency, though Discover parted ways with the creative shop in October 2019 after a 13-year relationship.
While Discover was the only credit card company to appear in-game during Super Bowl LIV, other financial brands including New York Life and TurboTax also ran commercials.
