Dr. Squatch, a direct-to-consumer natural soap brand for men, made its Super Bowl debut in 2021.
The commercial stars actor and comedian James Schrader, whose long hair and bushy beard makes him a fit for the Fellowship of the Ring. It features things you’d expect from a YouTube men’s personal care ad, including bleeps, sight gags, a fast pace and a naked (from the waist up) man showering in the forest.
The 30-second spot begins with the aforementioned naked man being disgusted by the smell of his bar of soap, leading Schrader to pull back the shower curtain and introduce him to Dr. Squatch’s product.
“Your soap is [bleep],” Schrader says, the curse word bleeped out by the sound of a duck, like the one you’d find in your bathtub.
Schrader proceeds to list who Dr. Squatch’s soap is for: “men who build things, open pickle jars on the first try, slay dragons and let their daughters braid their hair.”
