Mercari debuted its first Super Bowl ad in 2021, inviting users to sell their unnecessary clutter through the online platform. Set to a cover of The Beatles “Hello, Goodbye,” a young couple opens wedding gifts when they realize two identical yellow popcorn air poppers. So they decide to list one on Mercari, where it’s able to find a new home.
The commercial, which was already airing prior to the Super Bowl, was created by Rain the Growth Agency. It was part of Mercari’s "Goodbye, Hello” campaign, which focused on the power behind saying “goodbye” to meaningful items and “hello” to new finds.
Mercari joined the Super Bowl fray at a time when Americans, stuck at home due to COVID-19, were looking to declutter and spruce up their spaces.
