M&M’s returns to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row with plenty of star power, both real and animated.
Starring Christina Applegate (in her first Super Bowl ad) as a furious chauffeur to the misbehaving Red, Yellow and Orange M&M’s, the 30-second “Bad Passengers” spot is dedicated to the brand’s new candy-studded chocolate bar. Acting like toddlers in the backseat, Applegate first threatens to break the trio apart before slamming on the brakes and screaming, “That’s it! If you don’t stop, I will eat all of you alive right now!”
“Uh, I prefer the break us apart option,” Red offers.
Created by BBDO New York, this first-quarter ad is a continuation of the Mars Inc. candy’s history of funny Super Bowl commercials.
M&M’s 2018 spot focuses on Red’s desire to become human. His wish is granted as he is transformed into Danny DeVito. Prior to that, M&M’s hadn’t appeared in the Super Bowl since 2014, while other Mars brands such as Skittles and Snickers had their turn.
