During Super Bowl LIII, Persil ProClean revealed its deepest secret.
The 15-second ad by DDB New York is set inside the Persil Stain Lab, where the company’s fictionalized deep cleaning technology is put on display in a deep basement laboratory. It aired in the second quarter of the game.
The spot stars “The Professional,” a recurring brand mascot played by actor Peter Hermann who has been the face of Persil in previous Big Game spots. In 2018, he broke the fourth wall to help a Super Bowl fan with guacamole on his shirt.
Super Bowl LIII marks Persil’s fourth consecutive appearance in the Big Game—almost as long as the detergent has been on the American market. First launched in Germany by Henkel in 1907, Persil has long been available in different parts of the globe, but only hit U.S. shelves in 2015.
