In T-Mobile’s final commercial of the night, the carrier calls on a clueless father to help advertise a deal that entices customers to abandon their current phone providers by paying off any outstanding contracts.
The 30-second spot from Panay Films sees a dad text his daughter for eggplant parm recipes, only for her to realize that he’s actually trying to Google them. After the father doesn’t get the message that he’s not on the internet, the daughter forwards him a recipe anyway. “You can’t change your dad, but you can change your carrier,” appears on screen at the end of the ad.
The company’s “Dad” spot capped its 2019 Super Bowl ad blitz without directly mentioning its T-Mobile Tuesdays rewards program, which was the focus of its second- and third-quarter ads, though it did plug its $650 contract credit.
Three other telecom companies—Sprint, Verizon and low-cost mobile virtual network operator Mint Mobile—all aired commercials of their own during this year’s game, while AT&T sat out.
