Turkish Airlines returns for its third consecutive Super Bowl with a cinematic spot from acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott that celebrates Istanbul and its new airport.
The 30-second ad from New York creative agency Anomaly is cut from a longer six-minute short film directed by Scott. It focuses on a cat-and-mouse thriller that bounces between Istanbul’s most famous landmarks and also prominently features the to-be-completed Istanbul Airport, set to open later in 2019 to replace the aging Atatürk Airport.
The first-quarter ad stars “Blade Runner 2049” lead Sylvia Hoeks; previous commercials from the flag carrier have featured the likes of Morgan Freeman and TV physician Dr. Oz.
"I decided to go back and click-into advertising because I love the chase and the speed of the job," Scott said in a statement. "The fact is that this project went beyond the limitations of traditional advertising, and allowed me the creative freedom to tell the story." Turkish Airlines’ Super Bowl spot marks Scott’s first commercial in nearly 20 years.
