AT&T returns to the Super Bowl after its 1997 single-take entry starring Paul Reiser, known to audiences from the NBC sitcom “Mad About You” and other roles ("Bowling Alley"). This time the telecom’s protagonist is then-unkown Kate Mara, great-granddaughter of the founder of the New York Giants and a later star of the Netflix series “House of Cards” and movies including the 2015 version of “Fantastic Four.”
In then-independent Young & Rubicam’s charming “Bobby Templeton,” Mara's character gets an early taste of the kind of digital overexposure that would soon envelop the country. It was Mara’s first acting job. Watch closely for a quick appearance by Kat Denning, later to star in CBS’s “Two Broke Girls.”
AT&T advertised in the following year's Super Bowl as well with an anthem for consolidated billing out of Foote, Cone & Belding ("This Is").
