In a spot more closely guarded than even Chrysler's Clint Eastwood number ("Halftime in America"), LMFAO appear in a Bud Light ad immediately before Bridgestone's halftime show. "The joke -- they went to a bar called Halftime, rather than the stadium -- isn't all that funny, but the band carries the gag," Ad Age reviewer Bob Garfield wrote. "But more important, the commercial via Cannonball in St. Louis implies a surprise halftime appearance by the group and offers Shazam-enabled viewers an LMFAO remix of a new Madonna single."
LMFAO indeed joined Madonna on stage during the halftime show, though M.I.A. made a more lasting impression when she extended her middle finger.
A year later, new halftime sponsor Pepsi would use the same pre-show ad slot to emphasize its role ("Anticipation").
