For just the second year of Doritos' "Crash the Super Bowl" crowdsourcing effort, the brand invited aspiring musicians to offer their songs and had consumers vote on a winner to get a music video in Super Bowl XLII (with an assist from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners). California native Kina Grannis, who only began posting her music on YouTube in 2007, took the prize with her song "Message from Your Heart," yielding the spot you see above. She also got a contract with Interscope, later released albums on her own, and in 2013 delivered a Ted(x) Hollywood talk entitled "Finding Community Through the Internet."
In 2008 Doritos also wound up running "Moustrap," one of the finalists from 2007's "Crash" debut that hadn't appeared in the game itself.
