In 2008, Doritos' "Crash the Super Bowl" contest throwing open its big-game creative to any and all comers was only in its second year. (It would run through 2016.) This time, the PepsiCo chips brand invited unsigned music acts to submit an original song to be made into a music video with an assist from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners ("Kina"). But Doritos also aired the above "Mousetrap," one of the finalists from its 2007 contest that was thwarted by the inaugural winner, "Live the Flavor," and a close second that also got air time in the game, "Check Out Girl."
"Mousetrap," by Billy Federighi of Beverly Hills, Calif., wound up ranking among the top five Super Bowl XLII commercials on USA Today's Ad Meter.
