The star of the ad is meant to be the garage where Hewlett-Packard was founded, but in retrospect the CEO you see, Carly Fiorina, may be more striking. Opponents in her later campaigns for a Senate seat representing California and for U.S. president tried to use her time as HP CEO from 1999 to 2005 against here, and journalists spent plenty of time trying to come up with a verdict.
But in 2000, this Super bowl ad is a paean to inventiveness, recommitting the corporate soul to its roots in an emotional and lovely way. Directed by Leslie Dektor and created by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners.
