In an apparently tense negotiation, opposing parties seated in a conference room battle over demands for things like cupholders (nine of them!) and disappearing third seats. The Super Bowl XXXIII ad out of Rubin Postaer & Associates suddenly turns all warm, though, when the family dog makes an appearance, and gets downright cuddly when actor Richard Dreyfuss breaks in via voiceover to announce that "the all-new, easy-to-use, something-for-everyone Honda Odyssey" is "one big, happy minivan."
Honda and RPA previously promoted the Odyssey in 1995's Super Bowl XXIX with ads including "Grow Up" in the style of Keith Haring.
Honda was apparently pleased with RPA's approach; the agency would go on win Honda's Acura division account later in the year.
The marketer took a break from the Super Bowl after 1999 but is a regular big-game advertiser on the whole, with a body of pitches that includes "Peaks" (2005), "Matthew's Day Off" (2012), "Hugfest" (2014) and "A New Truck to Love" (2016), all out of RPA.
