L.A. Gear, BBDO and NBA star Karl Malone turn up at Super Bowl XXV to promote a new shoe positioned as a machine -- the Catapult.
Malone's closing argument makes clear to viewers what the intended competition is: Nike's Air Jordans. Reebok chose the same target with its pair of ads in the 1991 game, pair of notably confrontational (against Nike) Pump spots via George Lois starring Dominique Wilkins and Boomer Esiason.
Nike also ran a commercial in Super Bowl XXV, but had the luxury of keeping things inspirational and ignoring its competitors.
