VF Corp.'s Lee Jeans ran a pair of ads via Fallon McElligott in 1993 that use humor to stand out amid the usual barrage of beer, auto, snack and soft-drink ads. In addition to its successful executions -- "Silhouette" and this one both made the top 5 on USA Today's annual Ad Meter popularity contest -- Lee benefited from a lack of rival clothing companies in Super Bowl XXVII (excluding Nike and Reebok, which focused on sneakers).
Lee and Fallon McElligott bought Super Bowl ad time again in 1994, running a trio this time: "Vibrating Store," "Support Group" and "Mannequin."
