Job-seeking sites Monster.com and CareerBuilder.com went head-to-head in Super Bowl XLIV, with CareerBuilder using a "Hire My TV Ad" contest to generate another scene of office dissatisfaction ("Casual Friday") and Monster.com bringing out this unemployed beaver with a dream.
Both visually and audibly, "Fiddling Beaver" is the kind of Super Bowl spot professionally engineered to make a dozen people at a viewing party stop talking to take it in. It doesn’t exactly demonstrate how the “new precision job search” is any better than the previous search, or its competition’s, but it at least brings it up.
The ad is by BBDO, which also handled Snickers’ humorous Bowl XLIV spot ("Game"). In the run-up to Super Bowl Sunday in 2010, Monster promoted its efforts to help find a "NFL Director of Fandemonium" via a contest that sends the winner to the Super Bowl.
