Motorola’s pair of animal-themed Super Bowl ads by McCann-Erickson in 2000 played to the crowds well. A turtle falls in love with the new web-enabled mobile phone in one of the spots. Charming. Sweet. Funny. And the lingering product shot is central to the story. In the other commercial, a guy (Jason Jones of "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart") gets a python up his pants leg. What could have been vulgar actually clearly demonstrates the web capabilities of the phone.
The marketer would return to the Super Bowl periodically over the years, next in 2006 ("Pebl") but also 2010 ("Motoblur") and 2011 ("Empower the People").
