PepsiCo and BBDO ran two Mountain Dew commercials in Super Bowl XXXIV, a relatively un-cola big game in terms of soda advertising (with apologies to the Un-Cola, 7Up, which also ran an ad that year). “Bad Cheetah” is a clever race between mountain biker and big cat, with a great double kicker. The same Michigan State University ad professors that called Mountain Dew’s other ad in the 2000 game their favorite ("Mock Opera") said this one worked well too. "Both Mountain Dew ads were right on target, " Bonnie Reece, chairperson and professor of MSU Advertising Department, said at the time. "Animals in ads were big once again and overall, the dot-coms were a bit of a disappointment." The ad came in second in that year's USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter.
