This spot by Pubicis Groupe's Leo Burnett Chicago works to position Oldsmobile's young Alero brand not as a practical compact car but more of a funmobile. "Stop commuting, start driving," an announcer instructs.
The Alero continued until 2004, when General Motors shuttered its Oldsmobile division. Oldsmobile had one more Super Bowl commercial in the tank, though, 2000's unexpected spot parodying the ads of The Gap ("Gap in Cars").
GM ran another spot in the 1999 game to promote the Cadillac Escalade ("It's Good to Be the Cadillac").
