One of four spots by BBDO New York for PepsiCo's flagship brand in Super Bowl XXVIII, and one of two Pepsi commercials in the game directed by Joe Pytka (see also "Deprivation Tank"), "Shaq Playground" offers a twist on the familiar ad theme of sweet kids and superstar athletes—in this case Shaquille O'Neal, then an All-Star center on the Orlando Magic. The twist-free approach was most memorably executed, of course, by Coca-Cola and Mean Joe Greene in 1980 ("Early Showers (Hey Kid)").
Shaq also appears in a completely different 1994 Super Bowl ad, for Reebok ("Shoot, Pass, Slam").
This is a minute-long version of the 30-second cut that ran in the fourth quarter of the game.
