Quiznos founder Jimmy Lambatos is so riveted on making the tastiest sandwiches imaginable that he neglects all other aspects of his day-to-day life, including the part where he’s supposed to put on his pants in the morning. “Focus” confronted "Jared's Dream" from rival sandwich chain Subway in the 2003 Super Bowl.
Director Jeff Gorman, who specializes in comedy-driven executions, shot the ad for the now-defunct Cliff Freeman & Partners. (Before he hung up his own shingle, agency founder Cliff Freeman created Wendy’s hugely popular “Where’s the Beef?” campaign and Little Ceasar’s “Pizza! Pizza!" Push.) This was Quiznos’ second Super Bowl ad, coming on the heels of its 2002 debut, which featured a woman being sedated with a blow dart by an unethical sandwich researcher. The marketer wound up taking a year off from the big game, though, before returning in 2005 with a spot by Stiltanen & Partners starring a talking baby ("By the Pool").
