Turner Broadcasting’s TruTV, the one-time Court TV, made the unusual but understandable move of buying its first Super Bowl slot in 2010 to promote its then-new series “NFL Full Contact.” The ad, via Grey, is a nice Super Bowl combination of charismatic football celebrity, special effects and a decent punchline.
Super Bowls aren’t often home to spots urging viewers to try another network, especially as specifically as “tomorrow at 10.” A&E Network’s History Channel would hype “Swamp People” in Super Bowl XLVI two years later ("This Is Your Boss") but with the less-specific instruction to “check your local listings.”
