Philips-Van Heusen Corp. was founded in 1859 as D. Jones & Sons, a marketer of dickeys, collars and cuffs. Here it arrives at the 1989 Super Bowl with a sultry pitch for men's shirts, an atypical Super Bowl ad category that therefore doesn't face much competition. Super Bowl viewers previously saw the spot in the 1985 game.
The brand would return with a little more razzle-dazzle in 2007 ("Dress for Success").
