Volkswagen and Havas's Arnold Worldwide chose to give each of the brand's three ads in Super Bowl XXXV a different tone. There's the urgent romance of "Big Day," the droll suspense of "Tree" and, here, adrenaline and mystery.
(Once you've watched, check out 2015's Kia ad "The Chase" for another vision of a similar scare.)
2001 found Volkswagen and Arnold roughly midway through a decade-long relationship that spawned the tagline "Drivers Wanted." VW split with Arnold in 2005 and handed its account to MDC Partners' Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. It didn't return to the Super Bowl between 2001 and 2010, by which point it had signed on with Deutsch ("Punch Dub").
