Fox ad chief Marianne Gambelli retires

Marianne Gambelli is stepping down as Fox’s president of advertising, the company announced today. The Fox ad chief has been a leader in TV advertising for more than 40 years. Gambelli will be succeeded by Jeff Collins, who was previously executive VP of ad sales for Fox News Media. At NBCU, the seasoned ad leader oversaw sales for the broadcaster’s news, sports and entertainment portfolios. Gambelli then served as chief investment officer for Horizon Media before spending two years as president of sales at Fox News Media. She was promoted to president of advertising for Fox in 2019. She is retiring from the company, according to Fox. Gambelli was the first woman to handle media buying on a beer account when she was a TV buyer at Backer, Spielvogel & Bates in the late 1980s. As Gambelli previously told Ad Age, people considered it so bizarre to put a woman on a beer account that nobody told the client until two months after the fact. Gambelli also became the first woman to sell ads in broadcast sports programming such as the NFL and the NBA when she joined NBC in 1989. As president of advertising, Collins will oversee sales of all of Fox’s assets, including Fox Entertainment, Tubi, Fox Sports, FS1, FS2, FOX Deportes and FOX News Media. Collins will report directly to Lachlan Murdoch, executive chair and CEO of Fox. Collins joined Fox News Media in 2019 after nearly five years as chief revenue officer for Viant Technology, the parent company of tech platforms such as MySpace and formerly Xumo. He previously spent nearly 20 years in ad sales at Warner Media, where his last held role was senior VP of sales and marketing, overseeing ad sales for the CNN portfolio. “I want to thank Marianne for her many contributions to Fox and congratulate her on a phenomenal career,” Murdoch said in a statement. “Marianne has contributed immensely to the successful execution of our strategies, and it has been a great pleasure of mine to work alongside her.
