David Droga moves to CEO at Accenture Interactive

Droga5 founder David Droga has been named the new CEO and creative chairman of Accenture Interactive, succeeding Brian Whipple, who is retiring. Droga's agency was acquired by Accenture in April 2019 in a move hailed as a game-changer for the industry. The deal price was never disclosed, but David Droga told Ad Age last year it was more than $475 million.Read: Behind Droga's Accenture jump—plus, the industry response According to Accenture, "In his new global role, Droga will drive creative excellence, customer experience and business innovation—which leverages the unique capabilities of Interactive, including the power of the depth and breadth of Accenture—to accelerate results that sustain business growth. As global enterprises adapt to new customer needs, expectations and opportunities across industries, Accenture is helping set a new standard for customer connection, sales and marketing—with capabilities from brand to data and artificial intelligence, to the latest technology, to marketing operations." The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Last year, Droga5 shop, Ad Age's Agency of the Year, topped both R3 and Comvergence’s new business rankings, notching 20 new clients, including Petco, Maserati, Paramount+ and Allstate—the last breaking a 60-year streak with Leo Burnett. Droga5’s total revenue swelled 17% in 2020, including 25% organic growth among existing clients. This year, Droga announced it would be opening an office in Tokyo with additional outposts planned for China and Brazil. Under Whipple, who has led Accenture Interactive for the last decade, Accenture Interactive notched $10.6 billion in revenue. "Accenture Interactive has rapidly become the leading digital powerhouse at the intersection of data, creativity and technology,” said Droga in a statement. “As the world seeks to build back better, Interactive will continue to play a critical role in creating 360° value for our clients. I look forward to putting further emphasis on our creative excellence, coupling it with our world-class ingenuity and proven expertise in Interactive and experiences.”
