“Sherri has the perfect blend of leadership experience and business savvy that we need to propel us through the next chapter of Denny’s brand evolution while honoring our brand purpose, feeding people’s bodies, minds and souls,” Dillon stated in a press release. “Having worked with Sherri in the past, I know she will inspire our team members and franchisees with creativity and a strategic vision that will continue to fuel our growth in 2023.”
This year marks Denny’s 70th anniversary. Landry, according to a release, will “spearhead” a focus on increasing sales and improving guest experiences that amplify Denny’s cultural relevance as “America’s Diner.”
Along with Landry’s hiring, two Denny’s executives, Fasika Melaku and Laurie Curtis, will step into expanded roles to support the company and its franchisees.
Melaku will oversee all human resources functions as VP, human resources and chief learning officer while Curtis will oversee corporate communications, public relations, and strategic partnerships in her new role as VP, communications & brand integration. Both will report to Dillon.
Denny’s comprises 1,145 Denny’s restaurants and 54 Keke’s Breakfast Café units in the U.S. Denny’s has another 157 restaurants overseas.
In preliminary financial results separately released today, Denny’s said U.S. same-store sales rose 2% in the fourth quarter and 6.3% in the fiscal year that ended Dec. 28.
