It’s that time of year again, when brands release teasers for their Super Bowl commercials—or the entire spots.
These campaigns are a big deal. Ads are the No. 2 reason why people watch the Big Game. No. 1 is the game itself (doh!) and No. 3 is the halftime show. Research says that more than 75% of people are excited to watch Super Bowl ads. That’s amazing considering that we all tend to press the skip button for ads faster than when I used to play Decathlon on my Atari.
Many brands follow a similar formula when creating a Super Bowl ad. It’s usually: Celebrity + famous music track + maybe a dog/cat + product = Super Bowl ad. Formulas exist because they tend to work. While I prefer to try to do things differently, I understand and respect the hard work of people who disagree.
In any case, I am always excited by the campaigns that happen around, but not in, the Super Bowl. I love a good hack that capitalizes on the spotlight around this occasion.
