Work & Co is doing the hard work for clients in the places that matter the most. Last year, the Brooklyn-headquartered shop, founded nine years ago, continued its mission of improving brands’ digital identities as a way of fostering better connections with consumers. That strategy paid off with impressive growth.

For the second pandemic year, the agency saw a double-digit revenue rise, expanding 23% in 2021 to more than $109 million—on the heels of a 14% jump in 2020. Work & Co increased its staff count by 18% and now employs 467 staffers who served 43 new clients. The agency grew its global presence by opening two additional offices, and a ninth is planned for 2022.

Big brands including Ikea, Equinox and Gatorade depend on Work & Co to carry their businesses through the digital age, especially at a time when consumers have grown accustomed to shopping, working out and socializing online.

Work & Co made a splash last year with its efforts for the first-ever Ikea Festival, a 24-hour celebration that included both virtual and in-store events, along with an Ikea Museum online. The agency worked to make the event free and accessible for anyone interested in viewing activities such as concerts, cooking demonstrations and of course, home makeovers.

In addition, Work & Co teamed up with Gatorade on its Gx app, which tracks users carefully enough to provide them with a score based on training, recovery and nutrition, while also incorporating other fitness apps such as Strava and Apple Health. (Apple is also a long-time Work & Co client.)

Looking ahead, the shop is creating diverse work for a host of different brands. They include Abercrombie & Fitch, which hired Work & Co for a new road map across its brand portfolio; FreshDirect, which is in need of a site refresh to compete with grocery competitors that have honed their digital strategies; and Lululemon, which tapped the agency for design and transformation.
