Pantone has selected "Greenery," a fresh, vibrant green, as its 2017 color of the year -- standing for restoration and renewal after a turbulent 2016.

In a statement, the company describes the color as "fortifying" and says that "evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew."

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, added: "Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the hope we collectively yearn for amid a complex social and political landscape. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate, revitalize and unite, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose."

Pantone also announced it will be teaming up with Airbnb for a color-based experience early in 2017. According to The New York Times, this will involve transforming one of its properties into an "immersive greenery environment."
