Old Spice : 4 and 1/2 Weeks to Save the World
Dikembe Mutombo is out to save us all.
Editor's Pick
Wieden & Kennedy Portland go old-school for Old Spice's "Believe in Your Smellf" campaign via "4 and 1/2 Weeks to Save the World," an online game launched the day before Thanksgiving, starring retired NBA star Dikembe Mutombo. The end of the world is, at least according to the Mayan calendar, almost upon us -- and it's going to happen just a few days before Christmas, on Dec. 21. The game features Mr. Mutombo, accompanied by his intelligent and English-speaking "bear friend" Science the Bear, as he goes on various missions to try and save the world. In the brand's trademark offbeat style, the missions are also just as ridiculous as you would expect.
Week one, Mr. Mutombo faces the "Great 2012 Dance Crisis," when his trusty bear friend tells him about how Americans are too busy dancing Gangnam Style to actually go out and vote. The mission: To stop people from dancing so they can go out and vote.
Over Thanksgiving (week two), he spends time with Science the Bear and a "random Turkey," who finds the day kind of awkward, presumably due to the cannibalistic implications. What other adventures the brand and agency are set to unveil, we'll find out soon-- only two of five levels are unlocked right now. Still, it's a great way to spend what might conceivably be your last few days on Earth.
