Wallace & Gromit give players a chance to clean up in new mobile game from Aardman Animations

Wallace and Gromit, the classic claymation pair of madcap inventor and faithful but much-put-upon dog, have been entertaining audiences for more than two decades. Now the duo invite fans to join in the chaos, with an augmented reality mobile game from Aardman Animations and Fictioneers. “The Big Fix Up” features another of Wallace’s grand schemes—a repair service called Spick & Spanners that fixes up rundown bits of the city of Bristol. Players take the role of new recruits, tasked with using Wallace’s questionable gear to handle crises about town, from dousing flaming rocketships to cleaning pies off a van. It’s the first work from the new studio at Fictioneers, a collaboration between AKQA’s Potato, Sugar Creative and Tiny Rebel Games. The app uses the 3-D mapping platform Fantasmo to create an immersive experience layered over the real world. Players explore a virtual cityscape and enjoy a completely new storyline in the W&G canon, including in-character phone calls and comic strips. Ben Whitehead returns as the voice of Wallace, joined by Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”) and Miriam Margolyes (“Call the Midwife”), as well as Isy Suttie, Grace Ahmed and Joe Sugg. The free app is available on iOS and Android devices in the U.K., U.S. and Canada.
