In 2020, Heinz Ketchup began a campaign to be recognized as a serious film actor. The condiment launched its own IMDB profile that listed its hundreds of on-screen appearances, but the site shut the page down. This year, just in time for the Oscars this weekend, the saucy performer continues its FYC efforts by applying to the Actors Union.

According to Heinz Ketchup’s Canadian Instagram account, the Actors Union has already snubbed it as well, but that didn’t discourage the brand. It posted a “For Your Consideration” ad on L.A.’s Santa Monica Boulevard and subsequently got the true star treatment: a post on a gossip account.

Infamous Hollywood Instagram Deux Moi posted two stories recognizing the effort. One post, posed as an anonymous submission, claims that if Heinz’s Actors Union application were accepted, “this could be an iconic moment in pop culture history. It's actually shocking they aren't already recognized.”

The Heinz Canada Instagram account has rallied fans using the hashtag “#MakeHeinzAnActor,” asking them to share their favorite movie moments featuring the product. The campaign is the latest work for Heinz from Rethink, which was also behind the IMDB listing in 2020.
