These explicit (and sometimes icky) e-cards put the VD in Valentine's Day

Planning to get close this Valentine’s Day? Well, plan ahead, says The Alliance for Positive Health, in a provocative—and slightly icky—campaign reminding would-be lovers that a holiday without protection could have them feeling the burn. A new line of e-cards from health and wellness marketing agency Fingerpaint features illustrations both endearing and explicit, frankly explaining the painful consequences of unprotected sex. “My gonorrhea is resistant to antibiotics but my heart is wide open” reads one card, adorned with a close-up of heart-shaped bacteria. Anthropomorphic discharge offers a tiny rose beside the inscription, “My love for you is a steady drip drip drip.” The organization says the cards are meant to call attention to rising rates of sexually transmitted infections, particular strains that are resistant to antibiotics and other treatments. In 2018, there were 2.4 million cases of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia in the U.S. Viewers can see all the cards, as well as connect to free STI testing services, at ProtectValentinesDay.org.
