Allyson Felix shares ad for her shoe brand after Olympics win

On the heels of winning her 10th Olympics medal in Tokyo, track and field star Allyson Felix stepped out to promote her own shoe brand, Saysh. Felix, who earned bronze in the women's 400 meter race while wearing shoes from her line, shared on her Instagram feed a black-and-white film that explains the principles on which Saysh was founded: equality and empowerment of women and mothers. Accompanying monochromatic nature scenes and shots of Felix—her muscular physique, the c-section scar marking the birth of her daughter, her chest covered in medals—her voiceover reads: Like so many of us, I was told to know my place. But here I am, ready to run for a brand that I founded, designed for and designed by women. All of my experience of becoming a mom, of raising a daughter, helped show me my true competitor—inequality. Here I am using my voice to create change for us as women, and for us as mothers, and for all the women who want to be mothers. So here I am. I know my place. (and it’s in my own shoes).” A post shared by Allyson Felix (@allysonfelix) Felix’s brand and the new spot confront head-on the obstacles she has encountered throughout her career, such as her high-profile falling out with Nike. In an op-ed piece in the New York Times, Felix, once sponsored by the sportswear giant, shared her experience of having to renegotiate her contract with the company for much less money after she became pregnant. Felix went on to part ways with Nike and sign on with Athleta for sportswear before going on to found Saysh earlier this year. Nike, meanwhile, has since revised its own maternity policies and has become vocal about supporting pregnant women and mothers in its advertising, generating backlash from some consumers. Felix wore bespoke shoes, the Saysh 0.07 Spikes, during the bronze medal win. Later in the games, she went on to win gold in the 4x400 women's relay to become the most decorated American Olympics track and field athlete, surpassing Carl Lewis' 10-medal record. The brand is auctioning off Felix's Spikes along with an NFT with all proceeds going to The Power of She Fund: Child Care Grant.
