The late physicist Stephen Hawking, an inspiration to many, passed away in March 2018, after living for decades with an early onset and slow-progressing form of ALS. This past Friday, January 8, would have been his 79th birthday, and to mark the occasion, Answer ALS, a global initiative aimed at developing a unified strategy to stop ALS, opened the doors to its new comprehensive data portal on the disease to the global research community.

The portal comprises data from more than 1200 participants. Prior to its debut, such data had not been publicly available.

Answer ALS tapped consultancy GALE to create a campaign announcing the portal launch. It consists of the retrospective film of Hawking’s life that weaves together key moments from his career.  GALE also created a full marketing strategy that includes video and banner ads across online streaming, search, social media and display. Additional rollouts are set for this coming Friday. The aim is to create awareness and encourage the ALS research and science community to sign up to the portal.
