Cadbury’s AI tool lets consumers star in 200 years of classic ads

It’s been a week for retro AI portraits—and here’s another example from Cadbury U.K., which created an AI tool that allows consumers to upload selfies and see themselves in Cadbury advertisements from the past 200 years. The Mondelẽz brand worked with VCCP’s digital experience agency, Bernadette, on the campaign, which generates classic Cadbury poster imagery. The different old-timey fonts are particularly fun, and the resulting digital posters are uniformly wholesome, in keeping with the brand’s traditional tone. Cadbury also partnered with influencers to demo the tool and share their own posters. “‘My Cadbury Era’ is a product of human design and creativity which was boosted by gen-AI technology to make something that wasn’t previously possible—using cutting edge techniques to bring something from the archives up to date and into a modern environment,” said Jonny Goodall, chief design officer at Bernadette. Other agencies that were involved in the campaign include VCCP’s global content creation studio Girl&Bear, Publicis Media, Elvis and Ogilvy.
