W+K, Portland has launched the promotional site for Focus Features' upcoming stop-motion animated flick Coraline.
Helmed by The Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick, the film is based on Neil Gaiman's book of the same name and centers on a young girl who enters a secret room in her house which leads to a whimsical/nightmarish adventure. The homepage features Coraline's house under nightfall and lets visitors explore the various rooms within that highlight specific characters. The rooms include the "Other Mother's Workshop" that lets you upload and customize images and plaster buttons over your headshot, the goal being to represent the dangerous character Coraline confronts.
The creative parties involved claim every part of the site was first created all by hand, then photographed and rendered to recreate Coraline's world. Long load time aside, the site provides visitors with a map to navigate through other areas like the protagonist's bedroom, the foyer, "Tea Reading" room and "Mrs. Jones' Study." There is also a movie theater section that offers a trailer and more.
