For kids, the Christmas season is a time of anticipation, but perhaps, also one of many worries: What should I put on my wish list? Should I stay up till midnight? Was I good enough to deserve more than coal?
A new ad for Cost Plus World Market offers up another plight: What kind of cookies should Santa get on Xmas eve?
That question drives the storyline for the retailer’s new film, “Gift Thoughtfully,” from BarrettSF. The two-minute piece follows a boy as he frets over what St. Nick's favorite cookie is. He begins to pore over books, experiment in the kitchen and even interviews his local baker. His investigation then carries him all the way to Cost Plus World Market, where he encounters other little ones staring up at the shelves in the cookie section, troubled by the same question.
Ultimately, our boy hero comes up with an original idea that he hopes will please Santa in the long-run: a cookie jar.
The film features an original recording of “Santa Claus is Comin’ from Grammy-nominated artist Jessie J. The campaign also includes 15-second videos promoting various product categories, and the retailer will also be holidng a “Star Maker” contest, asking shoppers to put their own spin on the spot’s classic tune and submit it to www.worldmarketwin.com. Jessie J. will choose the winner, who will earn a professional recording session in a Hollywood studio along with a $1000 World Market gift card.
