A funny new spot for Maruchan, a brand of ramen noodles, sees a mom, dad and son communicate about their day at the dinner table--by slurping.
Instead of words, there's just a series of noodle ingestion noises and different expressions as we see subtitles describing their conversation about how the day at school went. While loud slurping isn't a mainstream practice among American noodle eaters, slurping is a basic of proper ramen consumption in Japan.
The ad, by Blitz Agency and directed by Ric Cantor at Hungry Man, is part of a campaign by the brand targeting busy moms.
Research by Blitz found that ramen is a popular choice among moms, whether stay-at-home or working, as it's quick and easy to cook as well as healthy. So it decided to create the "Bring Smiles to the Table" campaign, featuring playful takes on life as a busy mom. The campaign is running on TV as well as in geo-targeted Facebook and Instagram placements.
